It is sugar which distinguishes Negros Occidental from other provinces, therefore no visit to Negros is complete without exposure to the lifestyle and culture that evolved because of the sugar industry. This makes a visit to at least one ancestral house a "must do" and of the houses that have opened their doors to the public, there is none as well preserved and evocative of the early years of the sugar industry as the Balay ni Tana Dicang in Talisay.

What is now Palmas del Mar Conference Resort Hotel began as San Antonio Beach Resort in the late '60s. The resort had a salt-water pool and a children's playground plus horseback riding, fishing, and boating as added attractions. Always free was a walk along the narrow break-water, an activity that was fun, wet, and challenging, especially during stormy weather.

Exploring Lacson St.

Bacolod's main streets are laid out in a grid so getting aroundshould not be difficult. The two main streets which run north to south are Lacson Street which everyone who comes to Bacolod from the north passes, and Araneta Street, which goes from the south side of the Public Plaza all the way to Bago City.
